HD Radio - How Can I Use It?

Not very many people are familiar with HD radio so I will first define it and it's possibilities. The number of people with a HD radio is very small. Few people even know what HD stands for. Most simply think that it is high definition.

The original definition was hybrid digital. Some have said that it is now a brand name for the inventing company ( iBiquity digital Corp.). The common use seems to be simply HD radio and defines the digital radio that captures the HD signals. The use seems to be more of a brand than anything else.

The radio stations like it because they can get many more broadcasting stations. This is part of the digital revolution that is occurring in the world today. The digital signal is compressed and bundled with the following signals: AM , FM, HD, HD2. The AM and FM signals are analog and digital. These are broadcast as a bundle but it requires the special HD radio to receive the digital and HD signals.

When or if the digital signal is lost, the radio reverts back to the analog signal. The AM digital signal loses its static and buzz and produces a sound that is very much improved over the analog signal. The FM digital signal produces a sound that is very close to CD quality. The question most people ask is are the people willing to pay the high price for a HD radio? These cost between $100 and $600 and are made for the table top or installed in a car.

The public likes their mp3's and small portable radios. One can get a portable AM/FM for $15. The cost should come down if many people get the HD radios. Many or most NPR stations are going to the HD broadcast format. Most of the large stations are also changing to the new format. The cost is reasonable to convert to this format and the user fees to iBiquity must be reasonable as most stations are changing.

iBiquity might have improved the roll out by forgoing any fees until the usage was very high. The industry must have confidence in the system though since so many are changing to this format. The critics say that the technology has not been proven and may not work. Supporters say how can one loose by improving the sound to digital everyone wins.

This is the most improvement in radio sound since the introduction of FM stereo nearly fifty years ago. The government has forced TV stations to go digital. This also allows for high definition television for even better reception.. The government is not forcing radio to go digital but they are doing it on their own to improve reception. My opinion is that the hardware receivers will need many improvements before everyone is going to flock to the electronics store to buy their own. The size and features along with the price needs improving. all digital electronics at SharPix-Electronics.com

The technology for HD radio is here and looks great on paper. Will people turn off their satellite subscription and mp3s and Iphones to go to HD radio? It could be a slow process but when it really catches on, it could take off. The world is moving much faster in the digital world than it did in the slow days of AM and FM.

Kriya, a Spiritual Yoga Experience

People seeking a deeper spiritual meaning in their lives have found Kriya yoga. Yogananda brought Kriya yoga to the West in the 1920's. He established the Self-Realization Fellowship as a total yoga experience that addressed the spiritual as well as the physical, all most other western yoga disciplines concentrate on.

A Kriya yogi, as described by Yogananda, mentally moves his life energy around the six spinal centers - the medullar, dorsal, lumbar, coccygeal, cervical, and sacral plexuses. These each relate to the twelve zodiac signs. This subtle energy revolution progresses his evolution, and it is said that this 30 seconds of Kriya is equivalent to a year of natural spiritual growth.

Kriya yoga is based on Kundalina yoga and includes similar asana and meditation methods. Kriya adds some spiritual and esoteric guidelines. It does have its detractors that point out Kriya does not maintain your power comes from within, but that you need a teacher, or guru, to release your spirituality. Although it sounds like an admirable goal, Kriya's attempt to eliminate obstacles begs the question, are the obstacles there for a reason? Is the guru the right person to decide how and when to remove them? It is very important to go into Kriya yoga with a strong sense of self. Never allow another to hijack your self-determination!

Advocates of Kriya yoga believe they can achieve self-realization faster by combining three other yoga methods:

1. Karma yoga is concentrated on the movement of the soul, both out in the world and the inner actions of the mind.

2. Bhakti yoga aims to achieve peace with all the elements of your life through the power of love. It is often stated as "oneness with all creation and cosmic consciousness."

3. Jnana yoga is concerned with intellectual discipline leading to wisdom gained from spiritual knowledge giving freedom of the mind.

Thus, Kriya joins the three into a single discipline. It highlights the relationship between breath and mind. Breath control is self control. Breath mastery is self mastery.

Preparation is the first step in Kriya yoga. The body is prepared with a hatha yoga exercise routine. For beginners or the less flexible, other alternative preparation routines are provided.

Mind preparation comes next. Here you focus your mind by studying general conduct, analyzing your overall health, cleanliness and purity. You may even study your relationship to certain metaphysical principles. These reflective studies help to prepare the mind for later techniques intended to refine and improve the nervous system.

Mantras are taught in Kriya meditation in order to tune the mind and body to a single frequency. Again, the detractors point out, one must be careful that YOU are the chooser of the destination and your mind isn't being controlled by another, even a trusted other.

Although one of a handful of more controversial yoga paths, Kriya yoga has helped many attain spiritual levels they couldn't quite reach with other methods. It may be right for you, but go into it with your eyes open and your protection activated.

Top Tips For Picking The Perfect Toilet

The toilet is known by many names. Everything from "loo", "john" and even "throne" the toilet is, for many reasons, often the centerpiece of most bathrooms today. Regardless of what style of bathroom you have you'll want a toilet that completely compliments your overall design plan for that room. You definitely don't want a pokey looking, cheap toilet anywhere in the bathroom - it would totally take away from the look of the room itself. An important point is to never simply assume that all toilets are created equal. This couldn't be further from the truth.

For many years 5.5 litre and 3.5 litre flush toilets were the standard in most homes. Now, however, there's a move towards what are referred to as "low flow" toilets. They do this by only using 1.6 litres of water to achieve the same flushing performance as the other high water usage toilets. This reduced water usage will obviously save you money on both your waste and water bills each year. An additional, and obvious, benefit is that you're also helping the environment by reducing the amount of waste water being produced. Everybody can win in this case!

There is one single issue with the new style of water conserving toilets and that is that you really do get what you pay for. If you buy an unbranded "low flow" toilet then you'll probably spend more time having it fixed than you ever saved on the initial cost price. DO NOT skimp on the cost of installing a high quality low flow toilet - you'll regret it for longer than you can imagine. There's nothing worse in any family home than the toilet packing up and causing unnecessary stress.

Here's a checklist for buying your new toilet. Try to stick to as many of these points as you can afford to.

1. The toilet must conform to any local standards.

2. Only ever buy a brand name toilet. For example Kohler and Toto.

3. Decide in advance if you want a 1-piece or 2-piece toilet.

4. Do you want a gravity flush or assisted flush toilet?

5. Do you want a round or elongated toilet bowl?

6. Make absolutely sure the toilet fits with your decorating theme.

7. Most toilets need to be mounted 12 - 14 inches away from the wall. Take these measurements into account when you decide to buy.

Bet you never thought there was quite so much to a toilet did you? Now at least you're armed with the information you need to make an informed and worthwhile purchase that will do wonders for your bathroom.
